TCP Congestion Control in Fast Long-Distance Networks
نویسندگان
چکیده
TCP congestion control is currently based on Jacobson’s algorithms (slow-start and congestion avoidance), devised back in 1988, with improvements such as SACK and NewReno. Although TCP has proved remarkably flexible thus far and managed to adapt to vastly different types of networks, we show in this paper that some of the assumptions behind these algorithms are no longer valid in today’s fast long-distance networks. Our analysis is backed by empirical data collected over a 622 Mbit/s transoceanic link dedicated to Grid applications. We propose that the additive increase and multiplicative decrease algorithms be changed for this type of networks, and describe a new fairness principle.

TCP-Adaptive in High Speed Long Distance Networks
With the development of high performance computing and increasing of network bandwidth, more and more applications require fast data transfer over high-speed long-distance networks. Research shows that the standard TCP Reno cannot fulfill the requirement of fast transfer of massive data due to its conservative congestion control mechanism. Some works have been proposed to improve the TCP throug...
متن کاملPerformance Analysis of TCP Congestion Control Algorithms
The demand for fast transfer of large volumes of data, and the deployment of the network infrastructures is ever increasing. However, the dominant transport protocol of today, TCP, does not meet this demand because it favors reliability over timeliness and fails to fully utilize the network capacity due to limitations of its conservative congestion control algorithm. The slow response of TCP in...

متن کاملApplication of Newton Raphson Algorithm for Optimizing Transmission Control Protocol Performance
Wireless networks are growing rapidly. TCP is the most widely-used protocol on Internet and so optimizing TCP performance is very important for fast efficient data transfer. The different existing TCP variants and solutions they have not been analyzed together to identify the bottlenecks in wireless networks. TCP has a major problem in its congestion control algorithm which does not allow the f...
متن کاملStability Analysis of Internet Congestion Control Model with Compound TCP Under RED
Many applications require fast data transfer over high speed and long distance networks. Compound TCP(CTCP) is a novel congestion control algorithm for high-speed and long delay networks. This paper develops a discrete time dynamic feedback model of a congestion control system with CTCP under random early detection (RED). We find that periodic doubling bifurcation occurs when varying the RED co...
